Father's Day Weekend 2010

Actually, this lasted from the Saturday before Father's Day until Tuesday after Father's Day. Wow! Just great! And Robin gave me an online course, Bird Biology, from Cornell Lab of Ornithology which will really be fun to do. In the meantime, here are some photos from the weekend! Market Fresh Dinner

The summer in Boise is just sooooo delicious! The Saturday Market is the most popular, but there also a Thursday Market in Boise. Other towns around Boise also have their market where one can pick up some really good and fresh vegetables and other products: Meridian, Nampa, Kuna to name a few. It's important that we support these "local markets" - Think Local - Buy Local.

An Autumn Dinner

OK, so it's been a while since I made dinner. Soooo, tonight we had Lamb Chops, marinated in olive oil, salt and pepper, white wine, Dijon mustard and Greek oregano for about an hour. We know the ones who raised the lamb. Then a sauteed vegie mixture of fresh greeen beens, onion, tomato and summer squash. We also had a tomato salad of heirloom yellow and San Marzano tomatoes. All of the veggies are from the garden. Here are two photos.

Then I made two loaves - one batch - of "Quick French Bread".

Good dinner, even if I do say so myself.

Our garden in late June

The garden seems to be doing fine. We had an early morning rain on Tuesday, that really made the garden "Happy". The tomatoes had to be staked up; the lettuce is doing fine; the corn is growing - I just hope that it makes the 180 day growing time. The herbs are growing nicely as are the pole beans. I don't know what will happen with the artichokes, I've never grown them before.

Things got a very slow and late start as we had a very cold and wet Spring. Really late putting in the corn, tomatoes and melons. But the herbs, except for the basil, nor the lettuce, spinach, onions and beans minded the cold weather. Here's hoping for a productive late summer.

Our garden

I know, some of you are gone. But here are some photos of our garden. I just picked lettuce and onions. We had fresh steamed with garlic spinach over the weekend. I finally found some Silver Queen corn seed and there is a row and a half of it. 180 day growing time - I hope it makes it. The other corn is Jubilee and Bodacious, a yellow corn and very popular around here. Artichokes - I have never grown them. We'll see how they do. I will probably vacuum freeze some beans. And of course, there are always herbs - Rosemary, basil (several types), thyme (several types), cilantro, parsley, French tarragon and Greek oregano. Pick the basil just before the first frost and vacuum freeze it. The tarragon, parsley, rosemary and oregano will be back next year.
